Synopsis

Alex Friedman, a brilliant economist, arrives in the dying coastal town of Rockport with a hidden agenda. Using his financial expertise and manipulative tactics, he orchestrates an artificial economic boom by establishing shell companies, inflating property values, and falsifying growth data. While positioning himself as the town’s savior, he draws in massive investments and gains local support. However, his elaborate scheme begins to unravel when Lauren Shaw, a persistent journalist, uncovers the truth about his fraudulent activities. As the SEC investigates and pressure mounts, Alex refuses a state-backed bailout that could have saved the town, instead choosing to cash out with $1.4 billion, leaving Rockport in ruins. The story culminates with Alex facing legal consequences while experiencing haunting visions of nuclear destruction, revealing his deeper psychological struggles and the devastating impact of his actions on the community he claimed to help.
